Total projects presented

A total of 202 proposals in the field of energy and energy efficiency have been nominated to the fifth year of the Entrepreneurs Fund.

In this edition, the call for proposals remained open until the 10th of September, in order to more efficiently reach those entrepreneurs who were already working on innovative projects.

Of the proposals submitted, 27% are related to renewable energy—marine, solar, biomass, and waste, etc.—which, despite being the most common, have given up some ground to other categories that are gaining importance. This includes initiatives that promote increased efficiency in the final use of energy (26%), most importantly those projects in the fields of transportation, lighting, and more sustainable materials. There are also initiatives that are involved in the field of ICTs and energy saving systems (24%). The other proposals are categorized into the fields of conventional energy production from fossil fuels and other energy sources (13%); energy, distribution, and storage (8%); and energy harvesting (2%).

As for the level of development of the presented initiatives, based on the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) scale, it is worth noting that most proposals are at the medium – high level of development.

Another important piece of information is that the number of projects associated with universities and/or technology centres has remained constant. 40% of the proposals have originated in a university or research environment.

With respect to the proposals' origin, 89% come from Spain, and 11% from the rest of the world—7% from the Americas, 3% from Europe, and 1% from all other continents. Of the projects from Spain, it is worth noting the number of entrepreneur projects from the Community of Madrid, 35 proposals; Catalonia, 29 proposals; Andalusia, 18 proposals; and the Community of Valencia, 12 proposals.
